The ‘Meat of Fleet’

Hi all, hows you this very Wednesday? Good I hope. Anyway, a wee bit of news for you to get you outta the house for a Xmas celebratory aural onslaught… The ‘Meat of Fleet’ Compilation is a collective of bands from, well… Fleet who are playing a gig at the West End Centre, Aldershot on Sat 11th Dec to celebrate the release of the compilation CD.

VERY kindly, the bands have offered to donate the proceeds from the CD sales on the night to the Forward 4 Wiz trust. This is young musicians helping other young musicians at its best, so here at F4Wt, we’re more than a lil choked in thanks. So… get along on the night to see the meat, and possibly some gristle, of all things musical made in Fleet.

Line up includes Formal, Red Line Atlantic, Quays, Teeth & Tusks and Charlotte Clark all for a measley £6! For more info and tickets visit www.3hants.gov.uk/westendcentre or call 01252 330040 become a fan and find out what its about by taking a look here.

And before you run away back to the kettle, a sneaky lil birdy is whispering in your ear… On Saturday 19th Dec, as a special Xmas surprise, the one, the only, Mr. Gerry Bryant will be gracing the Westy stage once again in the Xmas Tag Team event. Along with Hold Your Horse Is (one of F4Wt’s favourite bands) and members of many others (including Reuben, Hundred Reasons, Dive Dive et al).

Tickets are proving to be hotter than explosive mince pies, so grab them quickly. £6 from the Westy website or from the box office on 01252 330040.

I’ll be there, and probably a bit tipsy, so say hello!

Love n sherry

K to plunge 15,000 feet in the name of charity

On 16 Jan 2010, Chair Trustee Karina will don a silly hat, tie her Cons tightly and chuck herself out of a very small plane, very high up in the sky in the name of raising a bit of cash for F4Wt’s 2010 ventures into rock.  If you’d like to sponsor her, or merely suggest which Ipanema / MC4 song she should scream as she falls to her fate, then please email info@f4wt.org

K thanks you in advance for your generosity, in case she is incapable after the event ;)

2009 and F4Wt

2009 has been a fairly busy old year for the trust.  As always, many thanks to all of you who have donated your hard earned cash over the year so that we can continue the good work… and to all of you who bought the Mega’s Merch.  There’s still loads of the ‘Tall Stories & Creepy Crawlies’ books available, just a fiver (+P&P), get in touch if you fancy one.

August saw F4Wt help out the guys at Rocked Out 5.  For those unfamiliar, this was a weeks worth of intensive workshops for musicians aged 14-18, to further their music and performance, whilst building their confidence.  Because of your kind donations, this year F4Wt were proud to be able to support 6 young musicians who wouldn’t have otherwise been able to take part.  This is what a couple of them said….

” From meeting famous band members to getting up on stage every day, it really has all been such a great experience that I would love to do again and again. I’ve learnt so much from my time at Rocked Out that I can’t thank F4WT enough! I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to learn from other students experiences alongside both vocal and stage techniques from the tutors. Rocked Out is a chance to learn and boost your confidence making it so valuable and just so worthwhile. “ – Beth Matthews (vocal student on Rocked Out 5)

“I took the vocal course on Rocked Out 5. Everyday of the course I learnt new techniques on how to improve my voice, all the tutors and other students were very supporting which helped a great deal, it was so much fun. My favourite part of the course was definitely the concert we put together on the last day, I had so much fun on stage and off, watching everyone performing, I made many friends in the first day of the course, and has helped me meet other people with similar music tastes. I wanted to be a part of Rocked out 5, as being tutored by professional musicians sounded an amazing opportunity, also schools do not offer this type of stage atmosphere. Being up on stage with a band, and a crowd put more energy into it, making it much more exciting. I recommend it to anyone who has a passion for music.” – Charlie Walter (vocal student on Rocked Out 5)

Karina went along on their performance day (7th August), and was mightily impressed at how well they’d all come along in just 5 days.  Congratulations to all those at Rocked Out, you did a fantastic job and F4Wt is proud to have been part of it again… here’s looking to RO6!

F4Wt also supported new band We Crash Planes when they needed to record a video, but had no venue.  One weekend we took to the Westy studio and the video was shot.  The Importance of Sleep can be viewed here.

So, what will 2010 hold?  We’ll have to wait and see… but there a few things up our sleeves and a few records on our decks.

Thanks again to all those past & present who have supported the trust.  You are the stars

Feedback from Rocked Out

We’ve had some great feedback from our help with Rocked out! See below from Tom Stephens.

“Just wanted to say a MASSIVE “THANK YOU!” for donating the three places to Rocked Out 4. I know Daly (guitar), Bonnie and Tom (vocals) all had an amazing time and did incredibly well, working extremely hard and improving massively over the 5 days. I think it was one of the best Rocked Out’s ever and you have played a huge part in that.

Thank you also for supporting and believing in Rocked Out, it is an honour to have been involved with the F4WT.

We got some amazing feedback from the post course questionnaires, which will be available for you too see at the Westie if you wish.

Photos of the course will be up at www.myspace.com/rockedoutlpw asap

Highlights for me this year:

*Friday’s packed Live Performance – everyone rocked the hell out
*Q&A session with Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
*All students’ enthusiasm for music and seemingly endless energy
*Adam’s (also seemingly endless) tour stories
*Jon Pearce rockin’ the undersized drum kit
*Stuffy’s hair (I swear it was bigger than ever)
*Lucy’s awesome on-stage robot dancing
*The staggering development in confidence, attitude, professionalism and self-belief demonstrated by the students, which improved with each performance

I hope to work with you and the F4WT next summer for Rocked Out 5!”

Great news. We are all looking forward to next years Rocked Out Too!

A Big Thank You

This is a post to say a big

THANK YOU!!!!

to all of you who have bought a copy of the Ipanema Anthology Album.

Sales have been good and as you know all money is going to the Forward 4 Wiz Trust which provides advice and support to bands and individual artists, by way of mentoring and training and some financial contribution where it’s needed most.

If you still don’t have a copy of the album yet you can get it at www.bosstuneage.com. So what are you waiting for?
